I'm Michael Jankovec, though most of this site just calls me Janko. I fell in love with making art in high school, took a few courses in college, and never stopped. While art has never been my career, it's always been how I express myself as a local artist.
Painting is where I spend most of my time, but I've explored just about everything in the creative realm: art glass, clay, sculpture, recycled art, multimedia, video, and photography. I choose whatever medium best fits the idea I have in mind.
I don't plan a theme for my pieces. I create whatever grabs my attention. I might see a pelican or a llama and think, "That should look like this." Or a song plays, and suddenly I'm inspired to work on a piece that reflects the vibe of Marley or Zappa. Some artworks begin with a joke, while others start from an image that lingers in my mind until it takes form.
The bright colors are what draw you in, but I also aim for each piece to provoke thought. Sometimes it presents a question, other times a new perspective on something familiar, and occasionally it simply invites you to stop and look twice.
Every piece is created and signed right here in my studio in Panama City Beach, Florida, where you can find my original art, recognized as Jankoart and reflective of the unique spirit of Panama City Beach art.
